Rural Geriatric Training |

The Gerontology Institute at Ithaca College has a longstanding commitment to providing training to health and aging service professionals in rural Central New York through its Rural Geriatric Training Project. With funding from the Finger Lakes Geriatric Education Center since 1997 and recent grants from the Central New York Area Health Education Center, the Institute has offered workshops in 16 counties. From September 2003 through June 2004, 538 professionals and paraprofessionals participated in training events in their rural communities sponsored by the Rural Geriatric Training Project. Finger Lakes Geriatric Education Center - FLGEC This training would not be possible without the ongoing support of the Finger Lakes Geriatric Education Center (FLGEC). Ithaca College is a member of the FLGEC Consortium, along with the University of Rochester, Monroe Community Hospital, and Nazareth College. The mission of the FLGEC is to offer education and training opportunities for health professions faculty, practitioners, students and others to enhance the quality and availability of health care for older adults. Central New York Area Health Education Center - CNYAHEC The Central New York Area Health Education Center (CNYAHEC) is a non-profit organization, located in Cortland, whose mission is to improve access to quality health care by promoting improvements in the supply, training, development and distribution of health professionals in a 14 county area.
