A
longtime dance teacher and choreographer at Ithaca College has
received the 1995-96 Independent College Fund of New York Faculty
Excellence Award. Eugenia Wacker-Hoeflin, a performer in residence
in the Department of Theatre Arts, is one of 11 faculty members
from private colleges and universities in the state recognized
for their resourcefulness and leadership as educators. The honor
includes a $1,000 cash award sponsored by New York State Electric
and Gas Corporation.
Wacker-Hoeflin joined the Ithaca College faculty as an assistant professor in 1980 after 12 years as a ballerina with the Metropolitan Opera Company. She teaches ballet and has choreographed a number of theater productions at the College. She received her own dance training from the Ballet Russe School of Ballet, American Ballet Theatre School of Ballet, and Ballet Arts, as well as from private instruction.
A founding member of the Coldwater Wash Dance Company, Wacker-Hoeflin spent one year with Les Grands Ballets Canadiens and has taught at the Brooklyn Academy of Music and the Robert Bell School of Ballet in Oklahoma. She was a choreographer for several local dance companies and has been on the board of the Ithaca Festival and presented a number of dance and movement workshops.
