Senior Class Gift Benefits Career Planning Office

By Mary Lash

Before marching out of Jim Butterfield Stadium and beginning new careers, the class of 1996 gave a gift to the Office of Career Planning and Placement that will aid graduates who follow them. Senior class secretary Renee Solano, class treasurer Dan Selig, and class vice president Andrew Willette joined senior class president Michelle Fraser at the podium to present President Whalen with a check for $11,250 to fund career planning and placement resources.

"Career planning and placement," Willette said, "has helped many of our classmates prepare for what lies beyond Ithaca College. In return, it is our hope that our gift will help those who come after us."

"This gift represents only one of many ways in which the class of 1996 will be forever remembered as a vital part of Ithaca College's history," added Solano.

Director of career planning and placement John Bradac said that the office is honored with the seniors' gift. "We are very excited and very pleased to be chosen," said Bradac, who noted that the gift will fill both immediate and future needs. He said half of the funds will be used to purchase computer equipment and install another technology station at which students can write résumés and print them out as well as research opportunities for internships, graduate school admission, and career placement. The remaining amount will provide an endowment for future purchases of materials for the office's library.
