Ithaca College Theater Season Opens October 8

Ithaca College's 1996-97 theater season opens on Tuesday, October 8, with a presentation of Lynda Barry's The Good Times Are Killing Me. The play is to be staged in Hoerner Theatre, Dillingham Center for the Performing Arts, through October 12.

Directed by Susannah Berryman, The Good Times Are Killing Me was adapted from Barry's novel of the same title. Featuring musical hits of the 1960s, the play captures the excitement of growing up and the joy of discovering interracial friendships as well as the sadness that societal pressures can create.

The cast for The Good Times Are Killing Me includes Jennifer N. Kaminer '97 as Edna Arkins, Jenny Weiss '97 as Lucy Arkins, David Agranov '97 as Raymond Arkins, Michell Sylvester '97 as Mrs. Willis, Camille B. Atkinson '97 as Aunt Martha, and William Orama Jr. '97 as Tito. Other cast members include Kenya Hamilton '00 as Bonna Willis, Chantelle Daniel '99 as Mrs. Arkins, Brian Turner '00 as Mr. Willis, and T. Butler '98 as Elvin Willis. The cast is completed by Brian Maillard '99, Kelly Mealia '98, Benjamin P. Wilson '99, Kristi Little '99, Bridgett Ane Lawrence '99, and Sarah Schoenberg '99.

The play's production team includes scenic designer Andrew Hasagawa '97, lighting designer Tak Kata '98, costume designer Susan Lissy '97, sound designer Asa Webber '98, technical director Mike Wade '97, and stage manager Keith Sklar '98. Management personnel includes Jen Ward '99 as house manager and Danielle Sementelli '97 as box office manager.

Guest choreographer will be Eric Jordan Young '93. Young, who most recently worked with the Las Vegas production of Starlight Express, appeared in a number of shows while at Ithaca College, including A Chorus Line and Hair.

Performances begin Tuesday, October 8, and run through Saturday, October 12, with shows beginning at 8:00 p.m. There will also be a matinee on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Tickets for Tuesday through Thursday evenings and the Saturday matinee are $4.50 for Ithaca College staff, faculty, students, senior citizens, and Friends of Ithaca College and $5.00 for general admission. Friday and Saturday evening tickets are $6.00 and $7.00, respectively. Special discounts are available for groups over 15.
