Wharton to Give Symposium Keynote

Nicholas V. Wharton, M.S. '90, director of the Educational Opportunity Program and special programs at the State University of New York at Binghamton, will offer the keynote address September 28 at Ithaca College's annual Professionals Symposium and Educational Opportunity Program awards banquet.

The remarks by Wharton, who directed Ithaca's EOP for nine years before leaving for Binghamton last spring, will headline a weekend of symposium activity. Using the theme "Affirmatively Act -- Now!" the event will bring alumni of color back to campus to share with current students information on career goals and opportunities.

This year's symposium will open on Friday, September 27, with an 8:00 p.m. alumni reception. Saturday morning will feature several presentations, with the afternoon reserved for career panels with alumni from a variety of fields.

Saturday's banquet, which will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Emerson Suites, Phillips Hall, will honor students for their academic accomplishments. Also honored will be outstanding alumni and Ithaca College community members who have supported the College's EOP and Higher Education Opportunity Program. Ithaca College president James J. Whalen will give a welcoming address.

Tickets for the banquet ($5 for students and $15 for all others) are available at the EOP office. All other symposium events are free and open to the public. For more information call (607) 274-3381.
