The new 55,000-square-foot addition to the School of Music will include
30 new faculty studios (slightly larger than the current studios)
a 250-seat recital hall designed primarily for solo and chamber music recitals
a large choral rehearsal room
a large instrumental rehearsal room that will also serve as a professionally equipped recording studio
two recording control rooms
an electroacoustic music suite
a music education resource center, including a large multipurpose room, an attached observation room, a large storage room, and three conference rooms
a small jazz rehearsal room
a 75-seat lecture room
a computer classroom
a computer laboratory room
a new ensemble collection facility
a new suite of rooms for the piano technician and instrument technician
a bridge connecting Ford Hall directly to the music holdings of the Ithaca College library
a bridge to a nearby parking lot
redesign of the front and west entrances that will eliminate obstructions to the disabled
a loading dock separate from the public entrances
Additionally, the following projects will be undertaken within the current facility:
restoration of six practice rooms currently used for teaching and/or storage
creation of four chamber music practice areas for students in the space currently occupied by the electroacoustic music studios
restoration of two classrooms currently used as four faculty offices
creation of two conference rooms in two current small classrooms
creation of a graduate student study area
improvement of backstage facilities for the auditorium and the Nabenhauer Recital Room
creation of a new reed room
expansion and renovation of the music office
new carpeting and paint throughout the existing building
a new mechanical system for the addition and improvements to the current mechanical system
a new humidity control system that will service the entire facility
creation of a workroom containing specially equipped computer workstations with Finale software for student composers
