Whalen Named To Military Education Posts

Ithaca College president James J. Whalen was recently named to two advisory bodies for United States armed forces professional education programs. Whalen, whose involvement with military education programs spans a number of years, has been asked to serve a second consecutive three-year term as technical adviser to the Process for Accreditation of Joint Education, a team of military officers and civilians who review accreditation for joint education programs at all United States service academies and the National Defense University war and staff colleges. In addition, he has agreed to serve on the Army War College's Board of Visitors, which advises the war college concerning curriculum, teaching, and operations.

Previously Whalen was a member of the Air University Board of Visitors from 1983 to 1990, chairing that board from 1986 to 1988. He was awarded the Exceptional Service Award in 1990 in recognition of his contributions there. Whalen was the civilian consultant to the chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Professional Military Education Review Panel in 1994 and soon after was named an honorary member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
