
Ithaca College alumnus Carl Johengen '84, MM '87, will give a guest vocal performance at his alma mater on Saturday, February 15, at 8:15 p.m. in Ford Hall Auditorium. The performance, which will feature music by Charles Ives, Morten Lauridsen, John Musto, David Diamond, and others, is free and open to the public.
Johengen is currently a faculty member at Syracuse University and the Crane School of Music at the State University College at Potsdam. A multitalented musician, he has earned a reputation for his excellence as a singer, teacher, conductor, and composer. He has appeared as a soloist with the Syracuse Opera, Syracuse Symphony, Buffalo Philharmonic, Bach Aria Festival Orchestra, Rochester Bach Festival, Society for New Music, and North American New Music Festival, as well as in recital and concert. His seminar and institute experiences have included fellowships at the 1996 Norfolk Chamber Music Festival American Song Seminar and the 1995 Bach Aria Festival and Institute at Stony Brook, as well as the Phyllis Curtin Seminar at Tanglewood. He has taught at Syracuse University as an Affiliate Artist in Voice since 1992, and has served as visiting assistant professor of voice at SUC Potsdam since last January. Johengen is now pursuing a doctoral degree at the Eastman School of Music.
In his Ithaca performance, Johengen will be accompanied by pianist Sar-Shalom Strong, who has played throughout the eastern United States as a soloist, accompanist, and chamber musician.
