The Ithaca Brass, resident brass quintet of the Ithaca College School of Music, will perform Tuesday, March 4, at 8:15 p.m., in Ford Hall Auditorium. The performance by faculty members William Bernatis, Frank Campos, D. Kim Dunnick, Harold Reynolds, and David Unland is free and open to the public.
The program will include Edward Gregson's Quintet for Brass; Driving in Manhattan, a work by former School of Music faculty member Paul Goldstaub depicting the bustle and fast pace of the metropolis; and A Flurry of Fanfares, a new work by concert pianist Paul Weirich. Also on the program is David Baldwin's arrangement of a work by Vivaldi, which was first arranged by J. S. Bach. The Vivaldi/Bach Concerto is an engaging work of the Baroque reinterpreted for the modern brass quintet.
The Ithaca Brass was established in 1966 and has performed throughout the United States at regional, state, and national conferences of educators and professional music organizations. They have commissioned works by artists such as Chuck Mangione and Malcolm Lewis, and have recorded on the Mark Records and Golden Crest labels. This spring the group will be featured on the program of the 1997 Brass Conference in New York City.
