The Face of Madagascar at the Handwerker Gallery

"Unloading Rice Donations," Tamatave, Madagascar, 1996.

The photo is part of Janice Levy's Handwerker Gallery exhibit The Face of Madagascar, opening today, March 4. Scheduled for 5:00 p.m., the opening will include a performance by local recording artist Samite of Uganda. Samite, whose latest release is Silina Musango (Xenophile), says one of his goals is to open people's minds and hearts to the common threads of human concerns, conveying optimism through stories and song. "I am convinced that we are all moved by the same desires, needs, and emotions, regardless of the language in which those feelings are expressed," he says. The reception for The Face of Madagascar is free and open to the public.
