Theater Season Finale

The Man Who Came to Dinner

The Ithaca College theater season will conclude April 22-26 with a presentation of the Broadway hit The Man Who Came to Dinner. Directed by faculty member Greg Bostwick, the play will be staged in the Hoerner Theatre, Dillingham Center for the Performing Arts.

Written by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart, The Man Who Came to Dinner is a popular comedy about a small-town Ohio family that invites radio celebrity Sheridan Whiteside to dinner. Whiteside's stay is prolonged when he slips on a doorstep and breaks a hip, and the chaotic events that follow are the result of Whiteside's pompous behavior.

The Man Who Came to Dinner premiered on Broadway in 1939 with success comparable to that of Kaufman and Hart's Pulitzer Prize-winning play, You Can't Take It with You (1936). The Man Who Came to Dinner played to packed houses in New York for a total of 739 performances before closing in 1941.
