First JJ Staff Scholar Award is PresentedDonna Wray, an administrative secretary in the Department of Occupational Therapy, was named the recipient of the first JJ Staff Scholar Award during the June 7 staff picnic. Established by staff council in honor of President Emeritus James J. Whalen, the award is to be presented annually to an employee who is pursuing a degree at Ithaca College. Wray, who received a $200 cash award for books or other educational resources, is seeking a bachelor's degree in art history. "Jim Whalen has been most supportive of the staff and the continuation of their education, particularly with our tuition remission benefit," said staff council chair Bruce Westfall in announcing the establishment of the award. "What better way to honor him than to recognize a staff scholar in his name?" Staff council is seeking funds to endow the award to ensure that it is given each year. A recipient must be a full-time staff member and a matriculating senior who has completed 90 hours or more while carrying a grade point average of 3.20 or better. |
