Tom Baker Ends 19-Year Ithaca Career

Longtime men's basketball coach Tom Baker `63 resigned his position earlier this month to pursue other professional interests. Baker, the winningest coach in men's basketball history at the College, will be replaced by assistant coach Jim Mullins on an interim basis.

"On behalf of the College, I'd like to thank coach Baker for his many years of service to the institution," said director of athletics Betsy Alden. "We wish him luck in his future endeavors."

Baker, who compiled a 307-191 record and took four teams to NCAA tournament play over the course of his 19-year career, will relocate outside the Ithaca area.

Mullins has been an assistant coach in the program for the past five years. A 1980 graduate of the University of Connecticut, he was a graduate assistant basketball coach at Ithaca in 1980-81 and ultimately earned his master's degree from the school in 1984. He was the head men's basketball coach at the University of Connecticut-Avery Point for five years and then an assistant men's basketball coach at Plattsburgh before returning to Ithaca.
