Workshop Talk Looks at Social SecurityThe Ithaca College Gerontology Institute Workshop series gets underway on Monday, September 29, with a talk by Dave Cook, a manager with the Social Security Administration. The talk, "All about Social Security," is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in the north meeting room, Egbert Hall. Preregistration is required, but admission is free for faculty, staff, and students on a space-available basis. Geared toward professionals, the September 29 workshop will present information on the programs of the Social Security Administration, the application process, eligibility requirements, and the best methods of obtaining advice from the regional office. Future workshops will focus on Alzheimer's disease, pharmacology for older people, practical strategies for reducing falls, and more. In all, six workshops will be held during the fall semester. In place since 1994, the workshop series offers individuals and service professionals information about aging issues that is useful in their personal and working lives. Workshop presenters are experienced professionals with backgrounds in teaching, research, and practice. Workshops are designed to be "hands-on" experiences, with ample use of video, discussion groups, and opportunities for questions and answers. For more information about the content of the workshops, call the Gerontology Institute at 274-1965. Questions about registration should be directed to the Office of Continuing Education at 274-3143. |
