Students Receive Awards

 
 

Eight Ithaca College students were honored during an awards banquet held as part of the recent Professionals Symposium.

Recipients of the Montana Morton Memorial Award for academic achievement, leadership, community service, and participation in Ithaca Opportunity Program and Higher Education Opportunity program activities were Talaya Centeno '98, Jibraan Lee '98, Phil Mendoza '98, Tamara Ochoa '98, Stacey Robinson '98, and Laura Vazquez '98. Recipients of the Director's Award for Academic Persistence were Yung Yu Chu '98 and Nicholle Martinez '98.

Trimica Gartrell '00, Patricia Gonzalez '00, and Pedro Ruiz '00 received certificates of achievement for exemplary use of tutorial instruction demonstrated by excellent preparation, participation, and persistence. Local educator Denise Crystallia Dendtler Lee '86 was given the exemplary alumni award, while Kristin Colongeli Hamill, Ithaca College's coordinator of student publicity, was given a certificate of appreciation from the students and staff of the IOP/HEOP programs.

Entitled "Empowering for Change: Paving the Way for the New Millennium," the symposium brought alumni of color back to the Ithaca College campus to share their experiences and perspectives on the workplace.
