Barney Beins, psychology, has had five manuscripts accepted for publication in two different teaching activity handbooks. Two works, entitled "The Interaction of Taste and Smell to Create Flavor" and "Counting Fidgets: Teaching the Complexity of Naturalistic Observation," will appear in Activities Handbook for the Teaching of Psychology, Vol. 4. Three other previously published articles by Beins will be reprinted in the Handbook for Teaching Statistics and Research Methods.

Luz Maria Umpierre, modern languages, was recently the keynote speaker at the annual convention of the Ford Foundation/National Research Council at the National Academy of Science in Washington, D.C. A Ford Foundation fellow in 1980-81, Umpierre was selected for the honor in recognition of her pioneering work on issues of equality in the curriculum. Her talk, "Out of the Margin Into the Stream," highlighted activities at the convention, which carried diversity as its theme. A native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Umpiere is an internationally known writer with seven books and more than 100 articles to her credit.
