||
Ithaca College graduate Kate Chell '97, a drama major from Riva, Maryland, has had her play, Wit's End, selected as an entrant in the National Student Playwriting Award competition in the American College Theater Festival, sponsored by the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Wit's End, a play based on the 1593 death of poet Christopher Marlowe, was directed by the playwright herself in three Ithaca College theater performances last October. Chell's play was adjudicated by a representative from KC/ACTF during its Ithaca run and nominated to go to the regional festival last week in Buffalo. The national selection team viewed regional entrants and was to select one play as the winner. The winning playwright will receive an expense-paid production at the Kennedy Center, a cash award of $2,500 and a contract for publication from the William Morris Agency, membership in the Dramatists Guild, a contract for publication from Samuel French, Inc., and a fellowship to the Sundance Theatre Laboratory. Additionally, performances by Wit's End cast members Michael Baugh '98 and Mika Duncan '00 earned them nominations for Irene Ryan Foundation Scholarships. Two regional winners were to be named during the Buffalo festival last week. Nominees were eligible for $500 regional scholarships as well as participation in the national festival in Washington |
