Actor Brings Portrayal of MLK to College

The Racial Awareness Series at Ithaca College continues on Wednesday, January 21, with a performance by Jim Lucas, nationally recognized for his portrayals of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. . The performance, scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in the Emerson Suites, Phillips Hall, is free and open to the public.

Sponsored by the College's Office of Minority Affairs, Lucas's one-man show, "Reflections: A Tribute to Martin Luther King" will punctuate the campus celebration of King's birthday. Lucas's resemblance to and interpretation of the legendary civil rights leader is astounding, and his recitations and interpretive readings have awed audiences around the nation. The performance includes renditions of King's "I Have a Dream," "A Knock at Midnight," and "Letter from a Birmingham Jail."

Lucas's stage credits include co-starring in the critically acclaimed play, The Meeting, a powerful drama about the lives, philosophies, and times of King and Malcolm X. Lucas says he hopes his performances "promote a deeper respect of the diversity that brings us together."

The Racial Awareness Series, along with Express Yourself forums that provide for audience interaction with guests, addresses race relation issues that speak directly to students of color but affect men and women of all races.
