This summer three students under the supervision of John Confer, biology, will study shrubland birds under power line rights-of-way. The studies, which will be conducted in Rhode Island and Massachussets, are being supported by the New England Electric System and the Eastern Utilities Association. The studies in New England are being held in conjuction with others in southern, central, and northern New York.


Three biology students recently presented papers at the 52nd Annual Eastern Colleges Science Conference at Niagara University. Awards for Outstanding Presentations went to Tina Marie Kristoff '98 for her talk on "Analysis of a Revertant in Subunit II of Cytochrome C Oxidase," which was coauthored by Michael Mazourek '99 and Vickie Cameron, biology; and to Linda Schoenfeld '99 for her paper, "Origin of Pituitary Adenylate Cyclase-Activating Polypeptide-Containing Fibers in the Mudpuppy Cardiac Ganglion," coauthored with Jean Hardwick, biology. Jamie Blair '99 presented a paper coauthored with Susan Swenson, biology, entitled "An Investigation of the Biogeography and Phylogeny of Hillebrandia Sandwichenis."
