Swensen Wins Teaching Excellence Award

Ithaca College assistant professor of exercise and sport sciences Thomas Swensen has been named a 1997-98 recipient of the Independent College Fund of New York Teaching Excellence Award, sponsored by New York State Electric and Gas. Swensen is one of 11 faculty members statewide being recognized for resourcefulness and leadership as an independent college educator.

The criteria for the Teaching Excellence Award take into account a nominee's subject mastery, presentation, interaction with students, and dedication to teaching. In nominating Swensen for the honor, Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences chair A. Craig Fisher called Swensen "the epitome of high energy, meeting his students at their level and then creating a need to know what is important about human physiology. He feeds off his students' inquisitiveness, and his students in turn feed off his knowledge and energy."

Swensen joined the faculty of the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance in 1995.
