College Names Business Dean

 
 

Robert A. UllrichA former dean of the graduate school of management at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts, has been named dean of the Ithaca College School of Business. Robert A. Ullrich will begin his new duties in Ithaca on July 16.

Currently a professor of management at Clark, Ullrich served as dean from 1988 to 1996, during which time he developed the school’s M.B.A. program. Prior to that he helped bring the management program at Vanderbilt University to national prominence as a founding faculty member and professor of management from 1969 to 1988. He also held administrative posts at Vanderbilt as associate dean (1979–84), associate dean for academic affairs (1971–74, 1977–79), and director of the master’s program (1970–71). In 1968–69 he was a senior research officer at the London School of Economics and Political Science.

"Ullrich brings with him a significant record of scholarly achievement and an extensive background in administration in schools of business," said acting Ithaca College provost Mary Lee Seibert. "His experience, vision, and leadership will provide the Ithaca College School of Business with renewed energy and sense of direction to meet the demands of students, the needs of the institution, and the expectations of the world of business as we enter the new century."

Currently at work on a book titled Organization and Management, Ullrich is also the author of Motivation Methods That Work and Robotics Primer and has contributed book chapters and published journal articles on such topics as changing organizational structures, factors in job dissatisfaction, and expert management systems. He holds a D.B.A. in organizational behavior from Washington University, M.B.A. in marketing from Tulane University, and B.S. in marine engineering from the United States Merchant Marine Academy.

A member of the Beta Gamma Sigma honorary society, he won awards for his teaching while at Vanderbilt and Washington. Among his community and professional service activities, Ullrich served on the President’s Task Force on Strategic Planning at Clark University, Worcester Area Chamber of Commerce Export Committee, Worcester Business Development Corporation, and Committee on International Relations.

Ullrich succeeds David Long, who was named in 1996 as dean of the Bloomsburg University College of Business in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania. William A. Scoones has served as acting dean in the interim.
