Saunders Attends Prestigious Institute

Tanya Saunders, Ithaca College's assistant provost for special programs, was a recent participant in a four-week program offering women faculty and administrators intensive training in educational administration.

Held June 28-July 24 on the Byrn Mawr College campus, the 1998 Summer Institute for Women in Higher Education Administration was geared toward women who are actively seeking increased administrative responsibilities. The intent of the program is to improve the status of women in the middle and executive levels of higher education administration-areas in which women have traditionally been under-represented. Participants were given training in the management and governance of institutions of higher education, institutional perspective on the pressing issues and problems in higher education today, strategies for professional development, and a continuing supportive network of peers and mentors.

Established in 1976 with initial funding from the William H. Donner Foundation, the institute has welcomed more than 1,600 faculty and administrators from throughout the United States, Canada, South Africa, Nigeria, Sweden, Wales, Iran, and the Netherlands.

The program is sponsored jointly by Bryn Mawr College and Higher Education Resources Services, Mid-America.
