Libby Larsen is Karel Husa Visiting Professor

Libby Larsen, one of this country’s most important and successful composers over the past two decades, will make several visits to the Ithaca College campus in coming weeks as the 1998–99 Karel Husa Visiting Professor of Composition.

Larsen’s works encompass orchestra, dance, opera, choral, theater, chamber, and solo repertoire and are sought after and performed throughout the United States and Europe. Larsen is widely honored, including a 1994 Grammy award for her work on the CD The Art of Arlene Auger. Her work has been recorded on such labels as Angel/EMI, Koch International, Nonesuch, and Decca, among others. Larsen will offer several lectures and master classes during her visits to the College, and a performance of her works will be featured in a Monday, October 12, performance by the Ariadne String Quartet. The concert is set for 8:15 p.m. in Ford Hall Auditorium and is free and open to the public. The concert will also feature a performance of a work by George Arasimowicz, this year’s Heckscher Foundation composition competition winner.
