Annual Event to Showcase Latest Educational Technology

The ninth annual Educational Technology Day at Ithaca College will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 25, in the Campus Center. As in past years, the event will be an opportunity for students, faculty, and staff at colleges and universities in upstate New York to see the latest in computer technology.

At the "Vendor Technology Showcase," "College Showcase," and a series of one-hour seminars, attendees can explore educational applications, be dazzled by computer graphics and music systems, learn how technology is being used today in higher education, find out more about the Internet, and see what can be expected in the coming years. Seminar topics will include the Y2K problem and other current computer issues.

Last year over 1,600 people attended and a record 45 local and national vendors participated in the show. Vendors signed up for the first time this year include Dorling Kindersley Family Learning, Educational Technology, PeopleSoft, SCT Corporation, and Silicon Technologies.

The program is being held in conjunction with Ithaca Technology Week, which will also feature the annual Networking Tompkins County Conference, scheduled for Saturday, March 27. Among the speakers at that event will be Christopher Harper, the Park Distinguished Chair in Communications and author of And That’s the Way It Will Be: News and Information in a Digital World.

Educational Technology Day is free and open to the public, but for planning purposes those intending to attend are asked to register via the on-line form or by calling 274-3030. For the most updated schedule of activities and to register on-line, go to www.ithaca.edu/edtechday.
