Inclement Weather Plan
Processional
The Commencement procession will form at 10:00 a.m. outside
in the quad if the weather is nice and inside the Campus Center
if the weather is bad. The processional will begin at 10:30 a.m.
in the order noted below:
A. The Class Division, consisting of members of the
graduating class, will form in the quad area or inside the hallway
extending from the Bookstore through Job Hall, depending on the
weather. Students from each School will form two abreast in random
order. Each School will be headed by its Marshals. Signs will
indicate the locations of the respective schools. (If you wish
to sit next to friends, you should march with them.)
Order of Procession
- Graduate School
- School of Music
- School of Humanities and Sciences
- School of Communications
- School of Business
- School of Health Sciences and Human Performance
- Faculty and Platform
B. The Faculty Division will form a double line in
random order under the direction of the Faculty Marshals behind
the graduates (along the hallway and behind the students entering
through the back door of the Campus Center if the weather is
bad). Faculty members should plan to provide their own umbrellas
in the event of poor weather.
C. The Trustee Division will assemble in the Board
Room, Job Hall, at 10:00 a.m. and proceed to the viewing stand
under the direction of the Trustee Marshals.
Severe Weather Plan
If severe weather (not just rain) is anticipated, the decision
to use the severe weather plan will be made as early as possible.
Information will be available by calling 274-3201, and announcements
will be made on local radio stations.
If the severe weather plan is used, there will be two Commencement
ceremonies held in Ben Light Gymnasium. Each senior will have
received four tickets, and admission to the entire building will
be by ticket only. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Both ceremonies will be telecast live and may be seen on cable
channel 16. Television sets will be set up in special viewing
areas on campus that include:
- Campus Center (various locations)
- Hoerner Theatre in Dillingham Center
- Ford Hall and Park Hall Auditoriums
- TV lounges in any residence hall where parents are housed
- Textor 102 and 103
In the event Commencement is moved inside, the parent/guest
entrance to Hill Center will open at 8:30 a.m. for the ceremony
for the Schools of Business, Humanities and Sciences, and Music;
and at 1:00 p.m. for the Schools of Communications and Health
Sciences and Human Performance. The class procession will form
inside the enclosed walkway running from Job Hall to the Campus
Center. A special set of severe weather plan instructions will
be distributed Commencement morning and signs will be posted
announcing all pertinent information. Since it will be very crowded,
cooperation in following the severe weather plan instructions
is extremely important.
