ANN CURRY LECTURE CANCELED AT ITHACA COLLEGE

Ithaca, NY—The lecture scheduled by NBC News anchor and reporter Ann Curry at Ithaca College on
Thursday, April 8, has been canceled. Curry has been assigned to report from Albania on the Kosovo
conflict. No makeup date for the lecture has been scheduled.
Curry, who anchors the news segments of NBC’s Today program, was to have spoken in the Jessica

Savitch Distinguished Journalism Lecture Series in the Roy H. Park School of Communications.

Today Show Anchor to Give Savitch Journalism Lecture

Today show news anchor Ann Curry will be the 1999 Jessica Savitch Distinguished Journalism Lecture Series speaker in the Roy H. Park School of Communications. Curry, who is also an Emmy Award–winning reporter, will speak on "The Power of Journalism: A Reporter’s Notebook" on Thursday, April 8, at 8:00 p.m. in Park Hall Auditorium. Her talk is free and open to the public.

Curry has been a member of NBC’s Today team since March of 1997, anchoring the show’s news segments. She also serves as a daytime anchor on the MSNBC cable network, contributes reports to Dateline NBC, coanchors Dateline International for NBC Europe, and is a substitute anchor for the Sunday edition of NBC Nightly News.

As a reporter for KCBS television in Los Angeles, Curry won Emmy Awards for her coverage of the 1987 California earthquake and of a gas-pipeline explosion in San Bernardino. She had begun her broadcasting career at KTVL in Medford, Oregon, where she served as a news reporter from 1978 to 1981. She was a reporter and anchor for KGW in Portland, Oregon, from 1981 to 1984, when she joined KCBS. She was named Chicago correspondent for NBC News in 1990, and from 1991 until 1996 she was the anchor of NBC News at Sunrise.

Curry is a four-time recipient of the Golden Mike award. She has received several Associated Press certificates of excellence and an NAACP award for excellence in reporting. A member of the Asian American Journalists Association, she holds a degree from the University of Oregon School of Journalism.

The Jessica Savitch Distinguished Journalism Lecture Series honors the 1968 Ithaca College graduate who became an Emmy Award–winning NBC News anchor and correspondent.

Previous speakers in the series have included Catherine Crier, host of the Fox News show The Crier Report; Cokie Roberts, ABC News anchor and NPR political analyst; Andrea Mitchell, NBC News chief foreign affairs correspondent; and Fred Francis, NBC News chief Pentagon correspondent.
