Music of Venezuela on Tap at IC

The Venezuelan folk group Los mensajeros de la patria (the Country Messengers) will play the traditional music of Venezuela known as joropo in a concert on Tuesday, April 13. The 7:30 p.m. performance will be held in the pub/coffeehouse in Phillips Hall and is free and open to the public.

Joropo is performed with bandola guitar, cuatro, harp, flute, maracas, and vocals. Los mensajeros is currently on its first tour ever in the United States. Opening for the ensemble at this performance will be Ithaca College’s own student dance group Orgullo Latino, doing salsa, merengue, and bachata numbers.

The concert is made possible by the cosponsorship of the Diversity Awareness Committee, the Departments of Sociology and Modern Languages and Literatures, the School of Music, the Office of the Provost, the Minority Experience Committee, and the Spanish Club.
