Kudos
The American Psychological Association has selected Barney
Beins, psychology, as a participant in its Psychology Partnership
Program conference. Psychologists from around the country will
meet for a week this summer at James Madison University to develop
plans for collaboration to improve teaching at all levels. Conference
participants were selected based on their long-standing contributions
and leadership in the psychology community. Beins is a fellow
of the APA, which is the largest scientific and professional
organization representing psychology in the United States.
Cocurricular media in the Roy H. Park School of Communications
recently won awards. The Ithacan was recognized with a
third place for overall excellence and third place for design
in the New York Press Association 1999 Better College Newspaper
Competition. Gretta Nemcek 99 received a first-place award
for feature writing. The Society of Professional Journalists
awarded a number of "mark of excellence" honors at
its regional competition in March. The Ithacan received
a third place for overall excellence, while Robert Bluey 01
took second place for in-depth reporting, Nemcek took second
place for feature writing, and Melissa Thornley 02 won
third place for sports photography.
At that same convention, ICTV was awarded the following honors:
first place, television non-daily newscast, for Newswatch
54; first place, television feature photography, for "Noise
Photo Essay"; first place, television sports photography,
for "Sports Final"; second place, television feature,
for "The Tulip Man"; second place, television sports
reporting, for "Eighth Grade Sensation"; and third
place, television non-daily newscast, for "Diversity in
Central New York."
On March 20 Bill Hastings and Rob Licht, both
art, were recipients of an artists direct support grant
from the Community Arts Partnership of Tompkins County.
A biography entry for Harry McCue, art, will be included
in the millennium edition of Marquis Whos Who
