Two Interim Appointments Made in Intercollegiate Athletics

Kristen Ford will serve as interim director of the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics for the coming year. Ford’s appointment takes effect August 1, when current athletic director Betsy Alden departs to focus full-time on her consulting business. In addition, Michael Lindberg has been appointed for a second year as interim associate director.

"These appointments will help ensure continuity in the athletics department," says John B. Oblak, vice president for student affairs and campus life. "Both Kristen and Michael have experience in athletics administration that will serve the program well while we prepare to begin national searches for both positions."

Since 1998 Ford has been associate director of planned and leadership giving in the College’s Office of Institutional Advancement. Prior to that she served for 12 years in intercollegiate athletics, starting as assistant to the director and rising to the position of associate director. A member of the National Association of Collegiate Women’s Athletic Administrators, she has served on the College’s Gender Equity Task Force, Sports Hall of Fame Committee, Sports Booster Club Executive Board, and Athletic Facilities Committee, among other activities.

Ford holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Rhode Island, where she ran cross-country and track. A school-record holder, she ran in a Division I national cross-country championship, was named outstanding senior woman athlete, and was elected to the university’s sports hall of fame.

Lindberg has extensive experience in student services, having worked at the University of Houston and Emory University before joining Ithaca College in 1986. Named senior assistant director of campus center and activities in 1994, he has coordinated the NCAA Life Skills program for student-athletes and in 1996 was selected as the outstanding professional in campus activities for the East Coast by the National Association of Campus Activities. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Le Moyne College and master’s in education from Indiana University. He was a member of the varsity soccer team while at Le Moyne.
