The new season opens September
25, 1999, with the River City Brass Band of Pittsburgh. Founded
in 1981 as a modern replica of the brass bands that existed at
the turn of this century, the group performs traditional band
works. However, the River City
Brass Band has a wide repertoire that includes rags, Broadway
tunes, Sousa marches, and more than a dozen compositions the
band commissioned and premiered.

Edgar Meyer, a vibrant performer
and innovative composer, will present a solo double bass recital
February 10, 2000. Meyer
has entertained audiences at the Aspen, Caramoor, and Tanglewood
festivals and is a regularly performing member of the Chamber
Music Society of Lincoln Center. |

The Bang on a Can All-Stars will
close the season April 3, 2000. Uniting the sounds of a classical
ensemble, jazz band, and rock band, the six members of this new-age
ensemble have a unique instrumentation, which includes clarinets,
saxophones, electric guitar, violoncello, bass keyboards, and
percussion. The All-Stars
first collaborated in 1989 at the Bang on a Can Festival and
have become a regular feature at that event.
