Whalen Center Opening

Ribbon-cutting ceremonyDelivering remarks at Saturday’s ribbon-cutting ceremony (above right and right) were Herman E. Muller Jr. ’51, chairman of the board of trustees; Marjorie Rooke Schwab ’69, chair of the Whalen Center’s fund-raising campaign; President Peggy R. Williams; president emeritus James J. Whalen; and Arthur E. Ostrander, dean of the School of Music.

Concert bandAn open house Satuday afternoon featured performances by student and faculty ensembles and soloists, including the concert band (left). Among the individual rooms dedicated at the opening were the Karel Husa Gallery (below), which houses a collection of manuscripts, memorabilia, and archives from the Pulitzer Prize– winning former professor of composition; and the David and Evelyn Sass Music Technology ClassroomDavid and Evelyn Sass Music Technology Classroom (below, right), which contains 20 Power Macintosh computers equipped with music composition software and sequencers.
