Committee Seeks Feedback on Mission Statement

Draft of the Mission StatementMembers of the Ithaca College community are being given an opportunity to participate in the development of a mission statement for the College. The All-College Planning and Priorities Committee, chaired by provost Jim Malek, is seeking feedback on a proposed statement that was drafted by an ACPPC subcommittee chaired by Ellen Bonaguro, assistant professor of speech communication.

"The ACPPC’s work is right on schedule," Malek says. "We have agreed on a vision statement and are now writing a new mission statement that we hope to finish before the end of the semester. Nine task groups — one for each of the College-wide priorities identified earlier in the planning process — are in the process of defining goals that will help chart Ithaca College’s future in the months and years ahead. I believe the process has worked very well, and I certainly appreciate all of the work on the part of so many people to make this a successful effort."

The vision statement addresses Ithaca College’s aspirations: "Ithaca College strives to become the standard of excellence for residential comprehensive colleges, fostering intellect, creativity, and character in an active, student- centered learning community."

Comments on the draft of the mission statement should be submitted by Monday, November 8, to the Office of the Provost or to any member of the mission statement subcommittee: Bonaguro; John Bradac, director of career services; Kyle Johnson ’00, student trustee; Nancy Pringle, vice president and College counsel; Carl Sgrecci, vice president and treasurer; Marina Todd, director of college relations; and Robert Ullrich, dean of the School of Business.
