Phi Kappa Phi Is Taking Fellowship Applications
Each year Phi Kappa Phi, a national honor society, awards 50 fellowships of up to $7,000 to outstanding students for first-year graduate or professional study. Ithaca College is one of the 281 chapters with the opportunity to submit one nominee. Students from the College have won fellowships four of the past six years. The criteria used in the selection process include undergraduate academic record, leadership and service experience both on campus and in the community, prospects of graduate study, strength of the students personal statement, and recommendations from faculty and others. To be eligible for the fellowship, a student must be a member of the Ithaca College chapter of Phi Kappa Phi. The deadline for applications is February 4, 2000. The chapter makes its selection by March 1, and national winners will be announced in early April. Founded in 1977, the Ithaca College chapter of Phi Kappa Phi now has a membership of some 62 faculty, administration, and staff and 51 on-campus students. Students elected to membership in Phi Kappa Phi are chosen from the upper 5 percent of second-semester juniors and the upper 10 percent of seniors. For more information on the fellowship call Mary Arlin, professor of music, at 274-3350, or Peggy Termina, faculty information specialist, at 274-3041. |
