Diversity Awareness Committee Is Looking for Proposals

The Ithaca College Diversity Awareness Committee is offering the Diversity Connections Award, a $1,500 prize for the proposal for an event or activity that best fosters the spirit of connectedness among members of the Ithaca College community. The individual or group submitting the winning proposal will be able to use the $1,500 to implement the event or activity.

"We’re looking for proposals that are educational, fun, challenging, and creative, and that promote the mission of the Diversity Awareness Committee," says Jeff Claus, committee chair. "Proposals may be submitted by any members of the College community. We especially encourage collaboration among individuals and/or groups who haven’t worked together before. We also encourage collaboration among students, faculty, and staff."

The Diversity Awareness Committee’s mission is to provide educational programs, training sessions, and experiential activities on issues of diversity relevant to the Ithaca College campus community and society. The committee strives through these events to encourage development of positive knowledge, attitudes, values, and behavior. The committee also pursues advocacy and leadership in addressing issues of diversity.

Proposals should include the following information:

  1. Title of proposed event/activity/action.
  2. Names of people submitting the proposal — minimum of four, with phone number and e-mail for each, if possible. Put the main contact person first.
  3. Explain how the group submitting the proposal represents a diverse collaboration.
  4. Describe the proposed event and explain your objectives. Be as specific as possible about what you hope to accomplish, as well as the size, location, arrangements, etc., for the event. Be sure to explain how the event/activity/action will build connections among diverse issues and groups and how it will bring people together for an interesting and meaningful experience. The committee encourages creative, innovative ideas.
  5. Provide a detailed budget based on research of real costs. (Remember that the Diversity Awareness Committee’s award is $1,500.) Provide supporting documents, if you like, about contacts made and availability of speakers, performers, etc., if involved. Also, you may include funds contributed by other groups/organizations, but if you do, these additional funds must be guaranteed, so please submit letters demonstrating commitment by these other organizations.

Deadline for submission of proposals is 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 1. Proposals should be delivered to Claus’s office in Muller 302.

The winning proposal will be selected between December 10 and 15. The Diversity Awareness Committee reserves the right to withhold the award if no appropriate entries are received.

For more information call Jeff Claus at 274-1342 or e-mail claus@ithaca.edu.
