Collins Memorial Service to Be Held February 11

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Don Collins, associate professor of accounting, will be held on Friday, February 11, at 2:00 p.m. in Muller Chapel. Collins, a faculty member since 1985, died of cancer December 20, 1999, at Hospicare.

In addition to teaching courses in accounting and management information systems, Collins was a productive scholar. One of his coauthored publications received the Coopers-Lybrand Silver Medal in 1990 while another was chosen the best theory paper at the 1989 annual meeting of the International Business Schools Computer Users Group.

Collins was born in Akron, Ohio, in 1946 and received a bachelor’s degree in economics and a master’s degree in accounting from Ohio State University. He was also a certified public accountant.

A dedicated volunteer, Collins served on the boards of the Family and Children’s Service of Ithaca, the Alternatives Federal Credit Union, and the Ithaca Yacht Club. In addition to sailing, he enjoyed cross-country skiing, camping, hiking, tennis, and golf.

He was also an avid musician and played the guitar, banjo, and harmonica. He performed in many groups, including a rock band and a folk group as well as church choirs.

As a member of the Jacksonville United Methodist Church, Collins served as a Sunday school teacher, an adult Bible study leader, and treasurer. Most recently, he had joined the congregation of the Agape Bible Church in Enfield.

His survivors include his wife, Linda Robinson Collins; five children; and a stepdaughter.
