Kudos

Vicki Cameron, biology, and Howard Erlich, dean, School of Humanities and Sciences, collaborated on a presentation at the recent annual meeting of the American Association of Colleges and Universities. The session, "Fostering Meaningful Voluntary Program Review," focused on the biology department’s recently concluded program review, using it as a model for further study.

Harry McCue, art, had a piece, Working Scarecrow #1, selected for inclusion in the Drawing from Perception III exhibition presented at the Wright State University Art Galleries in Dayton, Ohio. The exhibit, which ran through January 30, represented 53 artists and 60 works chosen from over 230 submissions.

Mary Ann Rishel, writing, recently coauthored an article, "Using Cognitive Models to Make Appropriate Problems," that will be published this spring by the Mathematical Association of America in A Handbook for Mathematics Teaching Assistants. The article explores how students conceptualize higher-level mathematics through natural language, a study that applies to students struggling with high-level theses and interpretative concepts in writing. She will also publish a book, Writing Humor: Creativity and the Comic Mind, with Wayne State University Press later this year. The book features the work of some 50 Ithaca College writing students. In addition, Rishel is vice president of the Slovak Studies Association and a member of the Executive Committee for the International Society for Humor Studies.

Bill Tastle, mathematics and computer science, was recently elected president of the Special Interest Group on Education, a national advisory group of the Association for Information Technology Professionals. Started in the 1950s, AITP advises government and industry leaders on legislative issues and provides its members with opportunities for continuing education in information technology.
