Park School Authors Celebrate Publishing Success

Park School authorsSeven faculty members from the Roy H. Park School of Communications who have had books accepted for publication during the 1999–2000 academic year celebrated with an informal gathering in the Tower Club on St. Patrick’s Day. Pictured left to right, the authors are (standing) Diane Gayeski, Capturing Mindshare: Managing Organizational Communication and Learning for High-Performing Organizations; Christina Lane, Feminist Hollywood: From ‘Born in Flames’ to ‘Point Break’; Patricia Zimmermann, States of Emergency: Documentaries, Wars, Democracies; Sharon Mazzarella, Growing Up Girls: Popular Culture and the Construction of Identity; and (seated) Ray Gozzi Jr., The Power of Metaphor in the Age of Electronic Media; Sandra Herndon, Communication in Recovery: Perspectives on Twelve-Step Groups; Gordon Rowland, A Tripartite Seed: The Future Creating Capacity of Designing, Learning, and Systems.

"We thought seven books seemed like a big number for one academic year," says Herndon, professor of organizational communication, learning, and design and chair of the graduate program in communications. "So we decided to invite staff, colleagues, and any interested members of the community to enjoy themselves and celebrate academic achievement."

The seven authors constitute almost 25 percent of the Park School’s full-time faculty and represent all three departments — cinema and photography; organizational communication, learning, and design; and television-radio — as well as the graduate program. All of the books were either published last fall or are forthcoming this spring
