‘Take a Child to Work Day’ April 17

The College’s third annual "Take a Child to Work Day" will be held this year on Monday, April 17. The daylong program of activities will start in the Emerson Suites in Phillips Hall with registration and a continental breakfast between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m. The program is designed to give boys and girls aged 5 to 15 a taste of the working world at Ithaca College. Registration is necessary, but there may still be openings the day of the event.

"The preregistration deadline was March 31," says Randi Millman-Brown, chair of the Take a Child to Work Planning Committee and visual services coordinator in the art history department. "But members of the College community should know that there may be openings due to cancellations."

Anyone who has not preregistered and still wishes to participate in the event should contact Millman-Brown at 274-3198.

The day’s activities will include attending a rehearsal by the Ithaca College Women’s Chorale, touring the biology greenhouse and aquarium, touring the WICB radio station, and taking part in "Storytelling and Math," a presentation by associate professor of mathematics and computer science Dani Novak that uses storytelling to convey problem-solving techniques.

"The event is based on the Ms. Foundation’s ‘Take Your Daughter to Work’ concept," says Millman-Brown. "But we had input from both parents and children telling us they wanted a day for both boys and girls. That’s why the event is called ‘Take a Child to Work Day.’ "
