United Way Campaign Exceeds Goal

The United Way campaign at Ithaca College exceeded its goal for the first time in four years. Contributions this year totaled $61,548; the goal was $61,000. The number of participants also rose, from 451 in the 1998–99 campaign to 522 in 1999–2000.

"We are very excited about the campaign’s success and wish to thank all who have contributed," says Lynn Eastman, campaign cochair and director of accounting. "Many don’t see Ithaca as being a community that has people in need, but there are numerous agencies that benefit from these contributions and wouldn’t be able to offer the services they do without the ‘Power of U,’ this year’s campaign theme."

Preparations for next year’s campaign, which will begin in September, are already under way. A newly formed student committee will set up a collection bin for cans and bottles in the Campus Center this fall. Proceeds will go toward next year’s campaign.

Staff or faculty members who want to get involved in the 2000–2001 United Way campaign can e-mail leastman@ithaca.edu. Students can contact student committee cochair Kelly Rycroft at krycrof1@ic3.ithaca.edu.
