The First Reunion of the New Millennium Will Begin on June 1

Reunion 2000Ithaca College’s Reunion 2000, "Making Memories for the Next Millennium" will feature a variety of activities and programs for alumni and their families from Thursday, June 1, to Sunday, June 4. Faculty and staff members will be mailed information about how to receive their complimentary ticket to the traditional Reunion picnic, which takes place from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Registration is required for all other meals and events. Staff and faculty may register on-line at www.ithaca.edu/alumni or call the Office of Alumni Relations at 274-1393 to request a registration form.

Check-in will start on Thursday afternoon and continue through Saturday. In addition to lunch and dinner buffets, Friday events include the seventh annual Butterfield Golf Tournament and the first-ever Wine Expo, featuring wineries from the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail. A number of presentations will be offered: members of the business faculty will give talks on "Building a Stock Portfolio" and "E-Commerce," and Ralph Ringstad ’83 will host "When Movies Were Silent," an overview of Ithaca’s silent-film history. Ringstad will also perform background organ music for three films made in the Ithaca area in the early 1900s.

The Saturday events include tours of such new facilities as the Center for Health Sciences and the James J. Whalen Center for Music. Returning alumni will also have a chance to get a look at the latest equipment and facilities in the Roy H. Park School of Communications as well as take a guided walking/driving tour of downtown Ithaca. Music professor Mary Arlin ’61 will lead the tour and give insights into the origins of Ithaca College and the downtown campus. Transportation will be provided.

On Saturday evening the all-College reception will provide a special opportunity for alumni to visit with affinity groups, faculty, staff, and coaches before attending the capstone of Reunion weekend, the all-class banquet and awards ceremony.

This year David Fleischer ’91, president of the alumni association board of directors, will honor the five award recipients: the late Ben Light ’36, M.S., ’47 — Distinguished Alumni Award; Fred Seither ’50, M.S., ’51 — Lifetime Achievement Award; Jonathan Hazman ’90 and Paul Baum ’90 — Outstanding Young Alumni Award; and Robert Deming — James J. Whalen Meritorious Service Award.

After the banquet alumni, their guests, and members of the campus community can dance to the music of the HotFoot Club, a local swing band.

A detailed schedule of events for Ithaca College Reunion 2000 is available on-line at www.ithaca.edu/alumni.
