Two Students Awarded CBS Foundation Scholarships

Three students in New York State received CBS Foundation Scholarships for this academic year, and two of them were from Ithaca College. Aaron Jay Mason '02, a journalism major from Lockport, New York, and Katrina Fulwood '03, a television-radio major from Mitchellville, Maryland, were among 26 students in 19 states selected in the national competition. The award carries a $2,500 stipend.

Funded by the CBS Foundation, the competition is administered by the Foundation for Independent Higher Education through the Independent College Fund of New York. The scholarships recognize and assist minority students who are enrolled full-time in independent colleges and universities and who plan to pursue careers in broadcast communications. Fulwood plans to attend graduate school and become a television director or production manager. Mason is preparing for a career in journalism.

"We are delighted to award these scholarships for the 10th consecutive year," says Helene Blieberg, vice president and executive director of the CBS Foundation. "The broadcast industry is experiencing rapid changes that require smart, quick-thinking individuals. Through programs like this, we are able to help young people prepare for that world outside the classroom."
