Janos StarkerJanos Starker

The new season opens on Tuesday, September 26, with a performance by Janos Starker, a Grammy Award-winning recording artist and one of the supreme musicians of the 20th century. He began his study of the cello in his native Budapest at the age of 6. He emigrated to the United States in 1948 and subsequently held principal chairs with the Dallas Symphony, Metropolitan Opera, and Chicago Symphony Orchestra. His Ford Hall program will feature sonatas by Beethoven, Brahms, and Strauss.

SoVoSó

SoVoSó will perform on Sunday, November 12. As part of renowned vocalist Bobby McFerrin's a cappella group Voicestra, members of SoVoSó toured extensively from 1986 to 1993. Since renaming itself SoVoSó (from "soul to the voice to the song") in 1994, the group has shaped its own musical style, drawing on a global musical perspective that includes African American spirituals, blues, Afro-Latin idioms, R&B, pop, world beat, and jazz. The ensemble's Web site is at www.singers.com/jazz/SoVoSó.html.

Musicians from Marlboro

Musicians from Marlboro will perform on Tuesday, March 20. The Musicians from Marlboro touring program was created as an extension of Vermont's Marlboro Music Festival. These tours are noted for their joyous performances and for being showcases for artists early in their careers. This year's sextet will perform works of Borodin, Brahms, Kirchner, and Ravel. Find out more about the group at www.marlboromusic.org.
