KudosThe NCAA recently ranked 331 Division III women’s cross country teams nationally, and the 1999 Ithaca College squad placed second with a team grade point average of 3.79. Only the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, Minnesota, was better. Earning academic all-American honors were Erin Boshe ’03; Lauren Byler ’01; Cara Devlin ’00; Lisa Melillo ’02; Missy Roether ’01; and Sherry Spitz ’00. John Bradac, career services, recently received the American College Personnel Association Commission for Career Development’s Outstanding Involvement Award for 2000 in recognition of his work with the National Placement Center. Kim Dunnick and Steven Mauk, music, spent two weeks studying and performing in Russia last May. In addition to observing the Russian conservatory system, they presented master classes at the Saratov Conservatory of Music in Saratov, and the Gnessins Academy of Music in Moscow. They were also featured soloists in concerts in Saratov with the Volga Band and in Moscow with the State Wind Band of Russia, conducted by Victor Hudolei. Diane Gayeski, organizational communication, learning, and design, has published a new book, Managing the Communication Function: Capturing Mindshare for Organizational Performance. Sandra L. Herndon, organizational communication, learning, and design, has written a chapter on focus groups for the second edition of Qualitative Research: Applications in Organizational Life. She also coauthored the introduction. The book will be published this fall. Jack Hrkach, theater arts, accompanied 12 theater students to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August. The students spent three days at the festival touring museums, the castle, and the Gateway Theatre, among other venues, before heading to the Ithaca College London Center, where they are studying this fall. Michael Twomey, English, published an article, "Is ‘Morgne’ la Faye in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight –– Or Anywhere in Middle English?" in Anglia 117 (1999). He has also published the entry on Imago Mundi, the medieval encyclopedia, in Medieval Trade, Travel, and Exploration: An Encyclopedia. In May he presented a paper, "Morgan le Fay, Empress of the Desert," at the 35th International Medieval Congress at Western Michigan University. |
