Mara Alper, television-radio, was selected to exhibit her video installation Close to the Bone at the Coburn Gallery in Colorado Springs during the University Film/Video Association conference in August. She was nominated to the board of directors of the association, which will hold its 2002 conference at Ithaca College. Also, her video art work Silent Echoes was screened at Cornell University's Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art in September.

Judith Andrew, library, was one of four panel members leading a discussion of "The Evolution of the Library Assistant" at the annual conference of the New York Library Association in Saratoga Springs in November. The dis- cussion focused on the changing nature of the work of library assistants in recent years as well as their involvement in regional, state, and national library organizations.

Susannah Berryman, theater arts, is a member of the cast of In the Absence of Spring, currently making its world premiere at the Signature Theater in Arlington, Virginia. Written and directed by Joe Calarco '92, the play runs through December 17.

Antonello Borra, modern languages and literatures, has written his first book of criticism, Guittone d'Arezzo e le maschere del poeta: La lirica cortese tra ironia e palinodia, which was published in September by Longo Editore in Ravenna, Italy. The same publisher will soon be printing his first book of poems, Frammenti di tormenti (prima parte).

Patrick Hansen, music, received a glowing review in the November issue of Opera News for conducting Frank Lewin's Burning Brightly at the Opera Festival of New Jersey. "Lewin weighs down the simple drama with a Wagnerian score of considerable complexity," wrote reviewer Robert Baxter. "The festival provided a strong production for this challenging score. Conductor Patrick Hansen presided over an impressive musical performance."

William Hastings, art, is presenting a solo exhibit, Farm Toys and Other Findings, at the Mercer Gallery at Monroe Community College in Rochester. The show, which features recent sculptural and mixed media work, will run through December 24. Hastings will give a gallery talk on Wednesday, December 6, at noon.

Linda Heyne, therapeutic recreation and leisure services; Susan Durnford, speech-language pathology and audiology; and Emily Morin '00 made two presentations - "Interdisciplinary Geriatric Preservice Training for Students in Therapeutic Recreation and Speech-Language Pathology" and "Geriatric Interdisciplinary Training for Future Rural Allied Health Care Professionals" - at the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association convention in Washington, D.C., in November.

The following faculty members and students from the speech-language pathology and audiology department also presented at the conference:

Elizabeth F. Begley, Katherine Lockwood '00, and Christine M. Cecconi gave a poster session, "It's a Dot-Com World: Computer Competencies for Graduate Students."

Marie Sanford and Shannon A. Campbell '99 presented a poster session, "Guidelines for Adults Speech-Reading Accented American English."

Barbara Ann Johnson gave a mini-seminar, "Learning Opportunities to Promote Excellent Clinical Reports in Student Clinicians," as well as a poster session, "Speech Therapy Following Cochlear Implant: Learning to Interpret Auditory Signals."
