Kudos

Mara Alper, television-radio, was featured in a recent article in the Independent on creative teaching approaches to film and video production. Alper was cited several times for her innovative approaches to teaching aesthetics and form in video production. Also, her experimental video essay Moving On was broadcast on PBS/KEDT-TV in Houston in June.

Susan Durnford, speech-language pathology and audiology; John Krout and Chris Pogorzala, Gerontology Institute; and Susanne Morgan, sociology, presented "The Success and Challenges of Intergenerational Programming between a College and an Adult Residential Facility" at the State Society on Aging conference held in Albany in October.

Emilie Falc, speech communication, recently presented "The Discourse of Equanimity in the Sitcom Dharma and Greg" at the National Communication Association convention in Seattle. She was a member of the panel exploring the theme "Engaging Mindfulness: Buddhist Discourse in American Popular Culture," which was chaired by Jodi Cohen, speech communication.

Jack Hrkach, theater arts, spent Thanksgiving break in Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia , attending theater performances and visiting theater museums. He observed classes at the Moscow Art Theatre School, where two of his students are studying, and is currently working to develop a partnership between that premier Russian theater training institution and the College’s theater arts department.

Rebecca Jemian, music, served as assistant chief reader for the free response section of the GRE Advanced Music Test in December. The reading was held at the Chauncey Conference Center on the Educational Testing Services campus in Princeton, New Jersey.

Kinsuk Maitra, occupational therapy, and Kalil Telage, speech-language pathology and audiology, presented "Bridging Departments Together: Web-Based Supplemental Undergraduate Neuroscience Teaching at Ithaca College" at the November meeting of the Society for Neuroscience in New Orleans.

Michael Malpass, anthropology, presented a paper, "The Inca Occupation of the Camana Valley, Peru: Preliminary Discussion," at the 19th annual Conference on Andean and Amazonian Archaeology and Ethnohistory, held in November at Dartmouth College. Two Ithaca College anthropology students, Marie-Claire Cazorla ’01 and Nicole Laszlo ’02, attended the meeting.

Sharon R. Mazzarella, television-radio, recently coedited Advertising and Consumer Culture, a special issue of the journal Mass Communication and Society. The special issue presented a variety of perspectives and methodologies concerning the growing power of commercialization and consumerism.
