Former Presidential Appointee To Speak on Race Relations
A former Los Angeles trial attorney whose practice focused on civil rights and criminal defense, Oh emerged as a voice for the inner-city Korean American community of Los Angeles after the 1992 riots there. She was later appointed special counsel to the California assembly committee investigating the riots. In 1997 she was selected to serve on the advisory board to the President’s Initiative on Race, a panel working to establish a national dialogue on racial and ethnic divisions. When her appointment ended in 1998, she continued to focus on fostering a national discussion about race. She currently serves on the Los Angeles City Human Relations Commission. Oh has addressed university audiences, professional associations, business roundtables, and religious groups. Her speeches cover new leadership models for women, the role of women in law and politics, Asian Americans in politics, and changes in the juvenile justice system. For more information call the Office of Multicultural Affairs at 274-1692.
