IC Hosts Police Bicycle Patrol School

Thirty-five bicycle patrol officers from municipal police departments and campus safety and security offices throughout New York and Canada were on campus the week of June 4 to learn how to better use cycling in law enforcement. The five-day program, now in its eighth year at Ithaca College, combined classroom instruction with hands-on training in negotiating stairs, curbs, and other hazards.

The officers also took part in distance riding, firearms familiarization incorporating the bike, and off-road riding on local trails. The program is sanctioned by the International Police Mountain Bike Association, Law Enforcement Bike Association, and New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services Bureau for Municipal Police.
