Best in the Region

Ad Lab teamIn April the 2001 Ad Lab team was voted best in the region at the National Student Advertising Competition, which is conducted by the American Advertising Federation. By winning the regional competition, the team became one of 16 finalists --- culled from 129 entries --- to present their campaigns to a panel of industry executives at the American Advertising Conference held in Cleveland in June. Considered the "college world series of advertising," the NSAC is held each year to provide college students with the "real-world" experience of creating a strategic advertising campaign for a corporate sponsor.

"The case this year was to create a global branding advertising campaign for DaimlerChrysler," says Scott Hamula, assistant professor of television-radio and faculty adviser for the Ithaca College chapter of the American Advertising Federation. "Our campaign was successful because the creative execution was attention getting, appropriately humorous, and easily identifiable by the target audiences."

Ad Lab, a 400-level course offered in the Roy H. Park School of Communications, is open to students of all majors. The last time an Ad Lab team won a district competition was in 1995.
