College Appoints New Affirmative Action DirectorTraevena L. Potter-Hall, former director of the Iowa Commission on the Status of African-Americans, has been named Ithaca College’s new director of affirmative action and equal opportunity. She joined the staff on August 15. During her two years with the commission, Potter-Hall coordinated advocacy and outreach programs for African Americans in Iowa, implemented statewide programs, and provided her expertise about African Americans to the governor and the state legislature. She had previously served as director of scholar recruitment programs in the University of Iowa Office of Admissions, where she developed and implemented a successful, comprehensive recruitment plan for academically talented first-year students. She also counseled students and their families about opportunities in higher education. At Ithaca she will serve as an expert resource in implementing policies and practices that support the College’s commitment to a diversified workforce and student body. In addition, she will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all laws related to affirmative action, disability, and sexual harassment. She will report to vice president and College counsel Nancy Pringle and work closely with President Peggy R. Williams. "I look forward to the leadership that Ms. Potter-Hall will provide to Ithaca College in these important areas," Williams says. Potter-Hall holds a bachelor’s degree with honors in African American world studies from the University of Iowa and a juris doctorate from the University of Iowa College of Law. |
