Table of Contents
The new academic
year will open with an interim provost and vice president for
academic affairs in place and the search for a successor to Jim
Malek under way. In May Malek announced that he was leaving after
three years as provost to take a comparable position at Rollins
College.

Traevena L.
Potter-Hall, former director of the Iowa Commission on the Status
of African-Americans, has been named Ithaca Colleges new
director of affirmative action and equal opportunity.

Some 1,740
incoming freshmen will be officially welcomed to campus on Monday,
August 27, with the annual Convocation ceremony and "welcome
to the community" picnic. Convocation, which traditionally
signals the start of the academic year.

The season
begins with Romeo and Juliet,
Shakespeare’s riveting classic of allegiance, love, and loss.
|
The Ithaca
College Alumni Association Board of Directors has honored Mary
Arlin 61 and Charlie Baker 41, M.S. 53, with
the first Volunteer Service Awards. The Volunteer Service Award
recognizes significant contributions made by both alumni and non-alumni.

The opening
concert in September will be presented by the Smithsonian Chamber
Orchestra, which will perform baroque dances on the instruments
of that time period.

The Handwerker
Gallery will present In the Fullness of Time, an exhibit
that reflects the many facets of Jamaican culture and identity.
Featuring the work of 19 sculptors, painters, and photographers,
the show will open on Thursday, August 30, and run through October
14.

The 2001 Ad
Lab team was voted best in the region at the National Student
Advertising Competition, which is conducted by the American Advertising
Federation.

Two initiatives
--- an integrated marketing plan and a task force to strengthen
faculty participation in fund-raising --- emerged as priorities
in the Colleges recently completed strategic planning process.
|
Students from
the Frederick Douglass Academy in New York City, demonstrated
their robotics project during a session of the TEAM (Technology,
Empowerment, and Modeling) Program.
